Installing Himal 1.85 into the Himalayan Database

Windows users should download and decompress the file Himal 1.85.zip. The resulting Himal 1.85.exe file should then be placed into the Himalayan Database folder (this is the folder that contains the older Himal.exe file and the HIMDATA folder).

Power Macintosh users cannot use Himal 1.85. Himal 1.4 is the last version that is compatible with Power Macintosh.

Himal 1.3 and Himal 1.4 change the behavior of the Other Exped button on the Members screen. Clicking this button displays other expeditions for this member; right-clicking this button display other expeditions for this members as well as for members with similar names.

Himal 1.4 adds the Peak Activity report as well as other enhancements to various reports and analyses.

Himal 1.5 adds several more enhancements to various reports and analyses. Himal 1.5 is required for adding the two new fields to the EXPED database (COMRTE and STDRTE) that indicate climbs that were done on the commercial routes for Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu and Everest and the standard routes for the other 8000m peaks; and adding the two new fields to the PEAKS database (HIMAL and REGION) that further describe the location of the peaks. Himal 1.5 must be installed before the Autumn-Winter 2011 and/or the Combined 2004-2011 (or later) updates are applied.

Himal 1.6 adds a Help button to many of the command dialog boxes that provides information about the various options for the command, in addition to more enhancements to various reports and analyses. The Display Expedition, Display Member and Display Peaks commands are now under the Display menu. The Browse commands have been eliminated since the Display and Search commands provide a better and easier method for navigating groups of similar records. Himal 1.6 will also add the additional COMRTE and STDRTE fields to the EXPED database, if they are not already present.

Himal 1.7 adds enhancements to various reports.

Himal 1.8 removes the requirement for mounting the Himalayan Database CD-ROM during authentication, since many newer computers and laptops no longer have CD/DVD drives. The authentication process still requires having the Himalayan Database booklet available to enter the word prompt. Himal 1.8 will also add the additional NECROLOGY, MSPEED, MSMTBID and MSMTTERM fields to the MEMBERS database, if they are not already present.

Himal 1.85 adds enhancements to various reports (as well performs all of the data expansion functions of Himal 1.8).
